MONTHLY MEETING OF THE WALDEN MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION 02-17-2012
The December meeting of the Walden MGA was called to order by President Rose at 1700 hrs with all Executive Board Members present with the exception of Phil Dieterich, David Rhodes.
A motion was made by McManus, and second by Mullins to waive the reading of the minutes and accept them as posted and emailed to all members. Motion passed.
Phil Dietrich sent in the Treasurers report. A copy is attached with the report. The hole in one prize for any MGA tournament remains at $5000. It was noted that the hole in one prize fund will be allowed to accumulate to $10,000 to enable us to immediately fund another $5,000 prize when someone gets a hole in one. Once the $10,000 milestone is achieved, 100% of hole in one prize money will be returned to the players each month in the closest to the pin competition.
Director Holt presented his report from the tournament committee. Director Holt has brought on Denny Wood to be added to the Tournament Committee to act as Rules Advisor for USGA compliance throughout the year. Discussed a rules awareness program involving including an article on USGA or Local Rules in the Walden monthly newsletter which we hope will enhance consistent compliance with the rules during all MGA events. We are developing a local rule on bulkhead holes 8, 11, 12, 13 players are prohibited from playing lakeside. Drop areas on holes 6 and 16 will be the gold tee boxes. Provisional ball will be allowed on holes 6 and 12 for any shot hit over green and out of sight where player is not sure if in hazard or out of bounds. No provisional ball will be allowed for shots visibly hit in water hazard in which player is debating playing out of hazard.
All local rules will be posted on the bulletin board for members and presented in writing for each interclub competition.
Director Holt noted the basis for costs of each tournament as follows:
One day no lunch will be $35
One day w/lunch will be $45
Two day w/lunch will be $55
Director Smith presented the report for the Senior Interclub: Director Smith has consulted with superintendant staff and agreed on Tee placement for tournaments. Hole 6 will be set at 140 yards, Hole 13 will be set a front of white tee marker, Hole 16 will be set at front of white tee marker.
Director McManus presented the report for the Invitational Interclub. Director McManus reports the Woodlands Country Club will participate in Interclub. Conroe Country Club will not. Total of 7 clubs participating. March 6th will be a captains meeting at Walden followed by a round of golf with 24 playing. March 13th is the Invitational Interclub Kickoff at Kingwood Lake course (social event). March 20th Competition Starts at Kingwood Country Club.
Director Rhodes was unable to attend but sent word that he had nothing to report.
Social Activity: April 3rd from 5-7 pm there will be Master Draft Party at the Café on the Green.
Web Site: President Rose reports working well. Contact him if you have any trouble Posting. Directory will be updated to be alphabetized by last name. Discussed having members updated to have wives names added.
Old Business: Nothing to report.
New Business: Walden Challenge:
Director Holt reports on format. Walden Challenge will consist of 6 rounds Stroke play, 100% net handicap for a year ending total scorecard consisting of a player’s best net score on each hole. Four single round MGA tournaments with the final MGA Championship consisting of two rounds. Player can compete in all or as few events as they wish. Payout will be places 1-10.
Walden Challenge entry fee will be as follows:
$20 cash for the March 10th, June 9th, and July 14th Tournaments. (Three 18 hole rounds)
$10 cash for the August 4th and October 13th Tournaments. (Three 18 hole rounds).
Board exception: Director Smith motions to have the MGA Board issue an invitation to Walden Pro-shop Manager Richard Lee to join MGA to enable him to participate in MGA events, second by Director McManus, motion passed.
A motion for adjournment was made by Smith and second by Mullins. Motion passed. President Rose adjourned the meeting at 1751 hrs.
